Every child gets there on their own timeline. This story walks a hero like yours through it, accidents included, so the potty feels familiar instead of scary.

Why it’s so hard for them

Potty training asks a small child to notice a body signal, stop playing, get to the bathroom in time and do something brand new, all at once. It's a lot, and it's normal for it to take weeks, with plenty of accidents along the way.

Some kids are also uneasy about the potty itself: the big seat, the loud flush, the strangeness of it. Seeing another child go through the same steps, and feel proud at the end, makes it all more familiar before they try.

How the story goes

Every book is written from what you tell us, so yours will be its own. Here’s the shape a story like this usually takes.

  1. Something new

The hero meets the potty and isn't sure about it. The story names the worry and why it's there, like the loud flush or the big seat.

  2. Listening to their body

The hero notices the feeling that means it's time, stops playing, and goes. A simple step your child can copy.

  3. An accident is okay

The hero has an accident, and nobody gets cross. They help clean up and try again next time.

  4. Proud of trying

Day by day it gets easier, and the hero's grown-up cheers the effort. The story ends on how good it feels to do it themselves.

Questions to ask while you read

The conversation is where the lesson sticks. Pause on a page and try one of these, then let your child lead. Why we build books this way.

  • What was the hero worried about when they saw the potty?
  • What did they do when their body said it was time?
  • What happened after the accident? Was anyone mad?

Questions parents ask

Is my child ready for potty training?

Readiness varies a lot from child to child. Common signs include staying dry for longer stretches, telling you when they need to go, and showing interest in the bathroom. Your pediatrician can help if you're unsure. A story helps either way, by making the potty familiar before you start.

Does the story include accidents?

Yes, on purpose. Accidents are part of learning, so the hero has one, nobody is cross, and they try again. Our habit stories show progress over time, not success on day one.

Is this a social story about potty training?

It's close, but not quite. Social stories are short, literal stories that walk a child through one situation step by step, and they're often used with autistic children. Ours are illustrated picture books with a plot, built on the same core idea: a child like yours, a clear picture of what happens, and one concrete thing to do. Describe the situation and the words you use at home, and we'll build the story around them.

Do I pick from ready-made books?

No. Every book is written and illustrated new from what you tell us: what your child is facing, a hero you name, their reading age and the setting. This page is a starting point, not a finished book.

How much does a book cost?

Ages 2–4: 24 pages for $7.99; Ages 5–7: 28 pages for $9.99; Ages 7–10: 32 pages for $11.99. Length and price follow the reading age you select, paid once. No subscription. Sign in before checkout and your first book is 20% off.

Do you use a photo of my child?

No, never. The hero is an original illustrated character you name and describe, so the story is about what your child is going through, not their face.

How do I get the book?

Writing and illustrating takes a few minutes after checkout. You read it in our online reader, download it as a PDF to print at home, and we email you when it's ready.
